Knowledge Quizzes (kquizzes.com) runs live and self-paced quizzes. This page explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, how long we keep it, who helps us run the site, and how to get your data or have it deleted.
The short version
- We collect only what the quizzes need to work. No analytics, no ads, no tracking, and we never sell data.
- Players in live games give a display name (or get an animal). No email.
- People taking a solo quiz confirm their email with a code. Their results are shared only with the quiz's owner.
- Weekly series (like “Tokenomics Tuesdays”) need no account: you play under a nickname. To join the board you confirm an email, and we keep only a scrambled, one-way version of it, never the address.
- Creators sign in with an emailed code. Their quizzes, folders, and results belong to their account.
- Cloudflare hosts everything. The only other site your browser may contact is Cloudflare's “I'm a person” check (Turnstile) on sign-in, solo quiz, and weekly series pages.
- You can download or delete your data. Solo quiz takers and weekly series players can delete their own results at any time.
- A study guide (the answer review as a file, or “Save as PDF”) is made in your own browser from what's already on your screen: nothing is sent to us, and it holds only your own answers.
What we collect
If you play a live game
- The name you type (first name and last initial), or the animal we assign if you join anonymously.
- Your answers, how fast you answered, your score and place. These become the quiz's results, which the host and the quiz's owner can see.
- A random token in your browser so you can reconnect to the same game. It isn't linked to who you are.
If you take a solo quiz
- Your email address, confirmed with a 6-digit code. You don't need an account.
- Your answers, times, score, and whether you passed. Your email and results go to the quiz's owner. Anyone else they share the quiz with sees you only as a masked address (like a•••@example.com), and only in groups big enough not to single you out.
- Other takers never see your name, email, or answers: comparisons like “you scored higher than 72%” are group statistics.
If you play a weekly series round
- The nickname you pick, your answers, how fast you answered, and your score. The series' owner sees them in their results.
- A random token in a cookie (
kq_play) that ties this browser to its plays, so you can't play the same round twice by accident and can come back to your result. We store only a scrambled version of it. - If you choose “Rank me”: the email you confirm with a code. We don't keep the address: only a scrambled, one-way version of it (lowercase, without +tags; for Gmail also without dots), so each email gets one ranked play per round and your weekly streak can be counted. If you delete a confirmed play, that scrambled version stays with the round (nothing else), so the same email can't rank that round twice.
- A scrambled version of your network (IP) address, counted per round so one network can start only a few plays of a round. The counts are deleted once the round closes.
- Other players see only group statistics (top score, average, percentiles, how many got each question right) and the top board by nickname. You can leave your nickname off the board, and the site owner can hide nicknames. Emails are never shown to anyone.
- Only if you ask for it (“Email me each new round”, or Subscribe on the series page, both confirmed with a code): your email address and when and where you subscribed, so we can email you when each new round opens. The series' owner sees only how many people subscribe, never who. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link, no tracking pixels, and no redirect links.
If you create quizzes
- Your email address (it's your sign-in), the display name you choose for catalog credit, and your time zone (so digests arrive in the morning).
- Your folders, quizzes and their versions, solo links, games, sharing, catalog entries, report and digest settings, and the results of your quizzes.
- An activity log of sign-ins, sharing, publishing, exports, and deletions, which you can see in the Activity tab.
Everyone
- To stop abuse (for example, someone guessing game codes or requesting many codes), we count requests per IP address. We store only a scrambled, one-way version of the address (a salted hash), never the address itself, and delete it within an hour.
- Emails we send: sign-in and quiz codes, share invitations, game summaries, digests the quiz owner turned on, and the weekly series emails you subscribed to. Every report email has an unsubscribe link, and we remember unsubscribes.
- Your browser keeps a few settings (like sound on or off). Our only cookies keep you signed in or tie you to your own plays:
kq_sessionfor creators,kq_takerfor solo takers, andkq_playfor weekly series players (only sent to that series). We don't use tracking cookies.
Why we use it
- To run the quizzes: join games, grade answers on the server, show results, and keep your place if you reload.
- To show quiz owners their results: scores, pass rates, and topic strengths, so teams can see what to practise.
- To keep accounts safe: codes instead of passwords, rate limits, and the “I'm a person” check.
- To send the emails you or the quiz owner asked for, and nothing else.
How long we keep it
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Quiz results (live and solo) | Until the quiz is deleted, its owner clears the results, or the taker deletes theirs |
| Weekly series plays | Plays never confirmed with an email: 30 days. Confirmed plays: until you delete yours, or the series is deleted |
| Weekly series play cookie | 180 days in your browser |
| Weekly series email subscription (and the unsubscribe links in its emails) | Until you unsubscribe; then 30 days (or at once, with “Forget me”, or when the series' owner deletes your data or the series) |
| “No email at all” requests | Kept, so we never email you against your wish (a series you confirm a new subscription to afterwards still emails you; nothing else does) |
| Creator accounts, quizzes, folders | Until you delete them or your account |
| Sign-in and quiz codes | 10 minutes (deleted as soon as they're used) |
| Sessions | Creators: 30 days after your last visit. Solo takers: 7 days |
| Scrambled IP counters | Up to 1 hour |
| Game codes | Joinable for 48 hours; the record is removed after 30 days |
| Share invitations not yet accepted | 30 days |
| Records that an email was sent | 90 days (they hold no address) |
| Unsubscribes | Until you subscribe again (so we never email you against your wish) |
| Backups | At most 12 weeks (weekly and occasional manual backups); the database's own recovery history for 30 days. Deleted data leaves backups as they age out, and a restored backup deletes again the accounts deleted since. |
Who processes it
One company helps us run Knowledge Quizzes: Cloudflare, Inc. Your data stays in Cloudflare's services:
- Workers and Durable Objects: run the site and live games.
- D1: the database (accounts, quizzes, results).
- R2: weekly backups.
- Queues and Email Sending: deliver our emails.
- Turnstile: the “I'm a person” check.
We use no analytics, advertising, or social media services, and we don't sell or share data with anyone else.
About the “I'm a person” check (Turnstile)
To keep bots from flooding people's inboxes with codes, the creator sign-in page, solo quiz pages, and weekly series pages (“Rank me”) may run Cloudflare Turnstile before
a code is emailed. When it's on, your browser loads a small script from challenges.cloudflare.com, which looks at signals from your
browser (not your quiz answers) to tell people from bots. It usually needs no click. This is the only request our pages make to a site other than
kquizzes.com. Cloudflare describes what it collects in its Turnstile privacy terms.
Your choices
- Solo quiz takers: open the quiz link, confirm your email, and choose Delete my results. Your results on that quiz are deleted for good. (We keep only a count of the attempts you used, as a scrambled code, so attempt limits still work.) You can also ask the quiz's owner, or us.
- Weekly series players: open the round in the browser you played it in and choose Delete my result. Your play, score, and place on the board are deleted for good.
- Weekly series emails: the unsubscribe link in any of them stops them at once. Its page also lets you stop every email from Knowledge Quizzes, or delete your subscription record now (Forget me).
- Creators: in your account, the Account tab lets you download all your data as a file, delete one person's results from your quizzes (for their request), and delete your account. Each quiz's Results page can clear all its results.
- Emails: every report email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
- Anything else, like a copy of what we hold about you or a correction: email me@aaronsoto.com, the site's owner. We reply within 30 days.
Changes
If we change what we collect or who processes it, we'll update this page and its date first.
